Senator Daly is honoured to be appointed to the Government's 1916 Rising Centenary Committee. The 100th year after the Rising will be marked by Community Engagement, Educational, Infrastructural and Capital Works and Commemorative Dates. 2016 will see the honouring of the ordinary yet extraordinary men and women who did an extraordinary thing on an ordinary day.  They wrote another chapter in the book of Irish Independence a book whose final chapter is yet to be written.

The citizens engagement in the shape and direction of the lead up to and the year of the commemoration will be vital. Ideas Senator Daly has proposed will be discussed by the committee.

Flags for Schools (each day the flag on the GPO would be replaced and once a year 365 secondary schools would get a flag from the GPO)

Freedom Trail (similar to the Boston freedom trail) where a Red (green in Dublin) line connects the main locations of the Independence movement).
