Mark Daly was elected as one of the youngest members of the 23rd Senate in the 2007 election and has been active in community affairs and local politics since college. He was born in Kerry in 1973 and holds a Diploma in Property Valuation from Dublin Institute of Technology and a B.Sc. in Management from Greenwich University, London.

Before being elected as a senator, Mark worked on Brian Crowley’s (Member of European Parliament) 1996, 1999 and 2004 election campaigns as a member of the strategy committee. Mark has vast media experience working on three TV series and local radio and newspapers.

Since his election to the Senate, he has been appointed to, and has served in, the following government positions:

• Member of Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs

• Seanad Spokesman on Overseas Development

• Deputy Government Spokesman on Innovation, Office of Public Works, Youth Affairs and School Transport.

• Coordinator for the National Forum on Europe

 

He has been most active on the Foreign Affairs committee and Overseas Development, meeting with international NGOs regarding government funded aid programs, promoting volunteerism, liaising with local embassies and assisting in organizing official events. He has also been active in fostering cultural links between Ireland and the US through his involvement with the Notre Dame University A.C.E program and other Irish/US cross cultural events including the presentation of ceremonial sword to the US Congress by former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern after his recent historic speech.

He was personally selected by An Taoiseach Brian Cowen to introduce the leader at the annual party conference dinner in 2008, which was attended by over 1,800 party members. He was also presented with the prestigious Good Republican Award by the Thomas Francis Meagher Society.
