Press Release

29 June 2009

SENATOR MARK DALY WELCOMES ANNOUNCEMENT OF PAYMENT OF FURTHER GRANTS UNDER THE SCHEME OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR OLDER PEOPLE.

Senator Mark Daly welcomes the announcement from the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, on the approval of funding under The Scheme of Community Support for Older People, for organisations in Kerry.

Three Organisations - the Beaufort Community Alert Group, Firies Ballyhar Community Care Association and Mid Kerry Active Retirement - are beneficiaries of this scheme.

The purpose of the Scheme is to improve the security of elderly members of society, by funding installation of socially monitored security systems, such as alarms, or interior security lighting for vulnerable members of community living on our islands.

The Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs coordinates and funds the scheme, while local community and voluntary groups provide the services.
