Senator Mark Daly Demands That the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Make Available Calculations of Farm Waste Management Payments to Kerry Farmers Following representations from Kerry farmers in relation to discrepancies in amounts paid to them under the Farm Waste Management Payments from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Senator Mark Daly has approached the Minister on the matter. “If a farmer believes that he has not received all the monies due to him he cannot get a breakdown of how the Department of Agriculture came to their figure”, says Senator Daly. Currently, accounts of how these payments are calculated are unavailable directly from the Department. In order to get one, farmers are forced to file a request under the Freedom of Information Act. Senator Daly highlights that similar breakdowns are readily available from other Government Departments, and condemns the current system as lacking transparency.
