I am delighted to announce that, with the cooperation of my colleagues in the Green Party, the draft bill on the labelling of mobile phones is nearly completed. The aim of this bill is to suitably warn consumers of the health effects of using mobile phones by way of a label that will appear on the phone packaging. This label will feature the phone's non-ionising radiation level, the Telephone Communication Power and the Specific Absorption Rate. The bill will also make it an offence for manufacturers to distribute and sell phones that do not have the appropriate labelling, and it will ensure that mobile phones meet with the International Commission for Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) standard.

For more information on the health effects of this kind of radiation, click to see the World Health Organisation factsheet
