SENATOR MARK DALY HAS WRITTEN TO ATTORNEY GENERAL ASKING HIM TO INVESTIGATE NAMA FOR BREACHING THE LAW Speaking in the Seanad, Senator Mark Daly informed the house that he wrote today to the Attorney General’s Office to ask them to investigate NAMA for breaching the law and the intention of the NAMA Act as passed by the Seanad in the disposal of property under its control. Senator Daly warned that “there is no transparency in the current process. This lack of transparency was confirmed to me by people who were asked to participate in a scam which involved the buying back of loans from banks for less than the current market value resulting in millions of euro of loss to the tax payers.” Senator Daly sought a legal opinion from the law library on this matter and found that this legal opinion confirms his concerns that NAMA are breaking the spirit and intent of the law. Section 2 and section 10 of the Act provide that the interests of the taxpayer must be protected. “This is not the case” Senator Daly states, “which is why I have asked the Attorney General’s Office to investigate NAMA and the way it is allowing loans to be sold.”
