Senator Mark Daly has welcomed a report commissioned by the HSE into the future of Kenmare Hospital. The Report recommends an extension to the existing hospital. Senator Daly has said that he is delighted that the HSE will be following the wishes of the people of Kenmare. "The recommendation of the architects report is to extend the hospital on the existing site which makes more sense than that of the options being talked about by the HSE," said Senator Daly. There had been a proposal from the HSE to build a new hospital on a new site but this was opposed by Senator Daly and residents of Kenmare in a public meeting in Kenmare at the end of June.
Speaking today in Leinster House Senator Daly has called for another public meeting with elected representatives in South Kerry to follow the publishing of the report to discuss how to ensure the building project moves forward. "The next step is for the submission of planning permission for the extension," said Senator Daly, "The people of the area have waited long enough and the HSE can not be allowed to delay this vitally needed addition to health services in Kenmare any longer".
