Senator Mark Daly is urging parents to apply early this year so they receive the money before their children go back to school. Under the scheme, eligible families will receive a payment of between €200 and €305 for each child, depending on the age of their children. People who may qualify for the allowance include those in receipt of a Social Welfare payment (including Family Income Supplement), Health Service Executive Payments, as well as people who are in an approved employment or training scheme or whose income is at or below a certain level. Commenting on the allowance, Senator Mark Daly said, “It is very important that families throughout Kerry apply for this payment as soon as possible. While it is possible to apply for these payments up to the end of September, parents should bear in mind that it usually takes between 6 to 8 weeks to process applications. Given the current level of unemployment, it is inevitable that thousands of extra applications will be submitted this year. Therefore, the advice is to apply early.” “Every parent knows how expensive the back to school period can be, with August and September being amongst the most expensive months of the year for most households. With this in mind, I would be happy to help anyone who has any queries about the scheme and to provide any additional information that may be required,” Senator Mark Daly concluded. Another specific measure introduced is the provision of an additional allowance of €215 which is payable to 18 year olds in full time education for who the half rate Child Benefit is now applied.
