Thursday 06 August 2009-08-05 Qualifying Dates for the Early Childcare and Education Scheme Expanded Senator Mark Daly has welcomed the announcement by the Minister of State, Barry Andrews T.D. that the dates for the free Pre-School Year under the Early Childhood Care and Education Scheme from 2010 have been expanded to include children born on or between 02 February 2005 and 30 June 2006. Latest figures from the Minister of State’s Office show that approximately 4,000 pre-school services have applied to enter the scheme with a capacity to provide some 93,000 pre-school year places nationwide, well in excess of the places required. As a result, it has been decided to allow for greater parental choice and flexibility in the case of children who just miss out on the age eligibility of the scheme by a matter of weeks. Children born on or between 2 February 2005 and 30 June 2006 will now be eligible to enter the scheme in January 2010. ENDS For more information, contact Mark on 086 8032612.
