Wednesday 21 October Senator Mark Daly Secures €13,500 For A New Flooding Study In Kenmare
Senator Mark Daly welcomed today’s announcement from Minister Martin Mansergh that €13,500 has been allocated to fund an investigative study to find out the reasons for flooding of the Finnihy river, Kenmare. The study which will be carried out by the Office of Public Works will also outline the actions that need to be taken to ensure that the problem does not arise again.
Following the severe flooding of Kenmare in October 2008, Senator Mark Daly has been working tirelessly to get funding for this study. Senator Daly stated ‘Since the flooding of Kenmare on October last, I have contacted the Minister on numerous occasions regarding this issue, and I am pleased that action has now been taken on the matter’. The flooding of Kenmare was very severe and it caused huge disruption within the town. The future fear of flooding is one which is a lingering problem for the local community, and it is very important that the issue is dealt with quickly.
Though Senator Daly has welcomed the funding he stated ‘even though it is a positive step that the funding for this study is now in place, I will work on ensuring that we will secure funding for the implementation of the findings of the study’.
