On July 12th, Senator Daly supported Deputy Deenihan, Minister for Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht, on his proposals concerning the Bank of Ireland building on College Green. Minister Deenihan is proposing the former Irish parliament building be used to house parts of the national art collection, a world literature centre, a national genealogy centre, a papers archive and a “digital media lab for cultural materials” in time for the historic 1916 commemorations in 2016. Senator Daly, who wrote previously suggesting a similar approach, stated: “If his officials bring him through the entire file he would see a letter from me to the previous Minister suggesting the same idea.” Unfortunately, while progress was being made on the proposals of Senator Daly and the Fianna Fail government, the General Election interrupted its development. Senator Daly added: “We do not care which Kerryman opens the building, even if it is my Seanad colleague, Senator Paul Coghlan”.
