Mark Daly is the PRO of the Kenmare Peninsula Action Group.

Kenmare Chamber of Commerce called a public meeting, at the behest of Mark Daly to discuss the proposed development of 60 acres of land adjoining the town. A large tract of land known as “The Peninsula” changed hands a number of years ago at a price close to €20 million. This property links Kenmare town to the shores of Kenmare Bay close to the pier. A most striking location that has been left to nature for generations.

The developers applied to Kerry County Council for what would have been a “new town”. Large supermarket, shops, offices and over 350 houses. Many large mature trees and much nature and wildlife would disappear. The towns only medical Centre is to be handed over by the HSE to the Developers to enable them to gain access to the site. Yet the developers were neither asked by the HSE nor did the developers offer to put in a replacement medical Centre.

Following the meeting it was agreed to form Kenmare Peninsula Action Group. This group made a submission to in relation to the planning application. Kerry County Council refused planning but this was by the developers to An Bord Pleanala. The An Bord Pleanala decision is still awaited.

In brief this is some of the facts and figures relating to the Peninsula Development
